Choosing The Best Networking Group

Choosing The Best Networking Group

So what does it take to choose a good networking group? Well, there are a lot of them out there. Not all of them will fit your needs, though. That also means that you would not likely fit the needs of others in the group. How exactly do you pick the right one? There are a few rules of thumb to follow, along with a few tips that we have for you. The best part? I’m going to share all of them with you today! Let’s get to it.

Business Networking In A Nutshell Is…

Well, it is the idea that you are going to not just get leads for your business, but help others in the process. This is done through business deals and favors mostly. Obviously, you want to pick one that is in your general line of business. This is important as you can’t do business with an ice cream company if you are a landscaping company. However, a landscaping company could easily do business with a construction company.

What To Look For

The first thing you want to do is find a business networking group that is receptive to you. If you join one and get the cold shoulder a lot, then you need to find another. There are many business networking groups and not all of them are great. You also want a group, as we just went over, that has similar interests in business as you. The money and leads for you are in these groups. Another thing you want to look for is trust. Of course, you have to build that with them, but it needs to be available first. By building trust you make other group members comfortable with you. That is how you will get leads.

Receptive and Talkative

It is not just about them being receptive either. You want them to be talkative so you can listen, and then talk back. Being social is exactly what you have to do in business networking to get leads and make a profit through it. If the group is all just about one weekly presentation by one person who takes a few questions, that is not the group for you. Unless, you are looking to learn something from them.

While you want to be social, also be very respectful. Each group has a way of doing things and whether that fits you or not doesn’t matter while you are there. If the group is not for you, then respectfully leave it. Every business networking group has a pecking order and you’d be best to be aware of it. If you find a group that is not respectful of you or other attendees, then definitely find another one.

Tips and Tricks

Keep it professional but be friendly. That is another large part of making people comfortable. You might be asked or ask someone how the day or week went. You do not want to go into heavy details on personal life, though. If your home life is like an episode of Dr. Phil, then find a therapist, not a business networking group. Another important idea is to be prepared for anything and everything. Have business cards ready for each group and every meeting. This will help you get leads and stay in contact with them. Keep all this in mind when looking for a business networking group and attending the meetings.
