Summertime Motivation

The kids are outside playing, the sun is shining brightly and you’re stuck inside at your desk wishing you could motivate yourself to get some work done. Believe me, I know how difficult it can be during the summer months to stay motivated to work when everything around you is so fun and relaxed. For this reason, I wanted to write a follow up to a blog I wrote previously about some ways to stay motivated during the summer months. I feel like its always a great thing to check in on how your goals are going and to see if there is any room for improvement. Think of this blog as a friendly reminder about the following points.

We all know that taking breaks during the day from work is something that is vital to keeping a clear mind. Even just walking away from your desk for a few minutes can do wonders for your productivity. So, what happens when the urge to walk away gets even more tempting due to a beautiful day outside and children who are distracting you from the tasks at hand? Don’t let yourself get frustrated by this!

Remember how we have talked about, in previous blog posts, prioritizing your day so that you ultimately end up having a productive and, dare I say it, relaxing day? This is something that I feel is so easily forgotten by people when they are caught up in the busy lifestyles we all know and accept as normal in today’s society. While there is nothing wrong with staying busy, there is definitely something wrong with not taking a breather to decompress and recharge during the day! In fact, one of the best ways to stay motivated is to remind yourself that a break is coming up soon and give yourself something small to look forward to.

Summer Motivation | SEVEN NetworkingTry and remember that you are allowed to leave the computer and take a breather! It seems like so many people forget this and feel glued to their desk all day. If you do this, you will likely do below-par work and stress yourself out even more because of this. I recommend making your lunch time a special event during the summer. Nothing big, of course, but something that not only you can look forward to, but your kids or family as well! Everyday, take your lunch outside and enjoy the summer breeze while you eat. Not only will it be a special and fun memory for you children (if you have them) during the summer, but you’ll also have a moment to de-stress away from the computer screen you’ve been staring at for several hours.

I’d like to leave you with a little tip: Make it your goal to really recharge during the weekend. Don’t try and check your email constantly. Instead, sleep in, play with the kids (because adults need fun too), and enjoy a weekend without work! We are people, after all, and were made to only handle so much before we completely loose it! Take those two days and let all the stress melt away. Summer is a beautiful time, enjoy it while you can and put the phone down so that you connect with your family. You’d be amazed at what two relaxing and fun days can do for your work week ahead. Never allow yourself to become consumed in the stress! Summer can temp you from the tasks at hand, but carving out time that is specifically for de-stressing can put your work on track for amazing and exciting things!
